PROGRAM LOCATION DETAILS

The Conscious Gourmet Kitchen
Santa Fe, New Mexico

Join Diane for a Spring retreat in her New Mexico kitchen, located in the heart of Santa Fe with 180 degree views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Our cooking classes, lecture/workshops and accommodations at the Ghost Ranch Santa Fe Retreat Centerare walking distance to the historic Plaza. No need for a rental car on this retreat! You’ll be steps away from the very best in SW shopping, world famous galleries and museums, spas, and the best Southwestern restaurants. You’ll be immersed in the Land of Enchantment with its “City Different” adobe architecture and design to experience, first hand,  why Santa Fe frequently tops lists of the country’s healthiest cities, best places to live, and top travel destinations. Plan to extend your stay in Santa Fe for the fourth of July weekend!

Our life-changing retreat includes health-supportive menus featuring a bounty of seasonal recipes and techniques. We’ll shop the local Farmer’s Market in the new Railway District as well as the 40,000 square foot Whole Foods Market, one of the largest in the nation, for the freshest organic ingredients available.

"Love, love the classes. Love what they did for me, for my family, for my health. Loved how much fun I had learning something new!" Annie M., Santa Fe '05 (second time retreat participant)

FREE TIME

Most afternoons are free to explore on your own or with the group. Santa Fe offers sophisticated shopping, intriguing galleries and museums such as the Georgia O’Keefe Museum and Folk Museum; visits to any of the eight Northern pueblos or casinos; or simply relax into a massage at the famed 10,000 Waves Spa,less than 10 minutes from our retreat site. For the nature lover and hiker, Santa Fe has a multitude of desert or alpine trails. The Fort Marcy Community Fitness Center is just a five minute walk from our retreat site offering numerous classes, weight room, swimming pool and gym.

GROUP EXCURSION (optional)

Following class on Wednesday (weather permitting), we'll journey to Bandelier National Park in Los Alamos to visit centuries old ancestral Pueblo sites, best known for mesas, sheer-walled canyons, and several thousand ancestral Pueblo dwellings found among them. We'll walk the Main Loop (self-guided) Trail, starting at the Visitor Center and leading through excavated archaeological sites and a spectacular (very safe) climb by ladders to a ceremonial kiva. On our picturesque return trip, we'll have dinner (optional) in Santa Fe’s famed Café Pasqual, one of the first to blend traditional Mexican cooking with the flavors of Asia; and one of the first to make a commitment to use only organic eggs and naturally-raised beef, pork and chicken and line-caught fish, along with many delicious vegetarian entrees—a long standing favorite of Conscious Gourmet retreat participants for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

On Thursday, preceding our late afternoon cooking class and lecture, you’ll have additional time to delve deeper into the rich culture of New Mexico. The drive to Taos, whether you choose the Low or High Road route takes you through several small mountain villages, each rich in culture and history, and spectacular scenery-- a must see. A top stop is El Santuario de Chimayo where visitors are invited to take a handful of dirt from the posita (or well) believed to be blessed with miraculous qualities. For a shorter drive, venture down the Turquoise Trail, just 25 minutes south of Santa Fe along the National Scenic Byway to the colorful town of Madrid, said to be home to more artists per capita than any town in America.
